A Green Growth Strategy and Now, Smart Windows—Korea has come a long way in becoming a Green Hub
Korean people are known for their spicy and colorful foods and their spicy and passionate personality to go with it. The recent history of Korea and even in time of tall tales, a survival mentality that accompanies a diehard workers spirit is still ingrained in Korean society today. I see it fit to only conclude that this may be a factor as to why Korea was able to become the thriving technology and green hub it is today.
Korea propels forward at a rapid pace and turns over a green community
Becoming a hub for all things tech and mobile came quick and the advanced mobile telecom network(s) that Korea is home to be receiving global attention on multiple platforms. It was only in 2009 when the Korean government announced their 100+ million dollar plan to dedicate Korea to a green future. Two years later and after many green developments and projects that the government promised, the eyes of the world look to Korea and are marveling at how this country is becoming a Green Hub to be modeled after.
Back in 2008, the Korean government made public their determination and plan to bring South Korea into a greener future. In footstep with “Save Energy Save Earth,” the emblem for the Korean Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO), Korea has been chasing after fulfilling their pledge of the entitled “low carbon, green growth” (launched in 2008) and their “1 million green home project”(launched in 2009) the aim of the project was to create a million homes that use one of five renewable energy technologies that include solar thermal, photovoltaic, geothermal, biomass or small energy. The government has set a plan to determine a new budget annually for these 5 kinds of green technologies, providing subsidies for these systems. Note that the Korean government is one of the first governments to successfully provide subsidies for the integration of green technologies.
The first big successful integration of these 5 technologies into a community building was seen earlier this year in June with the opening of the ultimate eco-friendly building, where the building is said to be zero carbon emitting.
